Overview
Between 1960 and the early 1980s, many Volvo Penta 4-cylinder petrol engines used traditional points-based ignition systems before the transition to electronic ignition. These engines were often marinised versions of Volvo’s automotive engines, particularly the B16, B18, and B20 series. They featured cast iron construction, overhead valve design, and displacements ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 litres. Models such as the AQ95, AQ100, AQ110, AQ115, and AQ130 used these engines, with points-based ignition as standard.
