What it does, and why it’s better: In a points ignition, the condensor’s job is to suppress the arc across the points as they open, so the coil can collapse cleanly and produce a strong spark. Retronics builds this unit around a premium metallised-film capacitor designed for pulse duty, which suppresses the points arc faster and more consistently than the old Lucas-era electrolytic approach. The result is a cleaner idle, crisper throttle response and fewer misfires, especially when hot, at sustained revs, or on rough roads. 

Construction you can see and feel: All-copper connections with a high-strand copper lead are hand-soldered for maximum conductivity and resistance to vibration. The lead is silicone-sheathed to damp vibration and tolerate heat cycling in the distributor environment. RC25 and RC45 versions include a beryllium-copper crinkle washer and a new fitting screw to maintain contact pressure and stable conductivity over time. 

External “RCPE” option for tough installs: Where heat, access, or packaging are issues, Retronics offers the RCPE external condenser in a custom 3D-printed ASA bracket that is temperature-resistant to 100 °C. It mounts externally and wires inline with the points lead—ideal for competition use, high under-bonnet temperatures, or when you want the easiest possible roadside access.
